

Robert Shoemaker was born in Boston, USA
and studied in Oregon and California before moving to London twenty years
ago. He is currently Professor of Eighteenth-Century British History and
Head of the History Department at the University of Sheffield. His most
recent book is The London Mob: Violence and Disorder in Eighteenth-Century
England (Hambledon and London, 2004). With Tim Hitchcock, he is director
of the Old Bailey Proceedings Online (www.oldbaileyonline.org), a fully
searchable edition of all printed trial accounts from 1671 to 1834.
Tim Hitchcock is Professor of Eighteenth-Century
History at the University of Hertfordshire. He was educated at the University
of California at Berkeley, and at Oxford. He lives in London and has written
and edited books on eighteenth-century poverty, sexuality and masculinity.
His most recent book is Down and Out in Eighteenth-Century London (Hambledon
and London, 2004).
